Be an Art Critic:
The work of art I am critiquing is called Self-Portrait with Bandaged Ear.
The artist's name is Vincent van Gogh.
I see a hurt men that just went through something horrible, but at the same time I see a calm men that never gives up. His outside may be hurt but on his inside he's strong and unbreakable.
The one or two elements that stand out in this piece of work are the bandage on his ear and the look on the mans face. Hes clearly trying to give us a message.
The mood that this artwork represents is calmness. You see a man that has his ear cut open but his facial expressions do not show any pain.
What message do you think the artist was trying to send with this work?
Van Gogh is trying to depict his remorse but calmness after the fight with Gauguin. He is trying to show how sad he is at how he himself destroyed the chance of having a group of artists painting together. The use of colors give us a calm feeling and the expression on his face further exaggerated the feeling and emotion he had at that point of time.
I like this artwork because his purpose is met and the emotion that he had at that point of time is well depicted and clear for the viewers to feel.
